The Council of Fashion Designers of America is the governing body of the fashion industry, and has been since 1962. The not-for-profit organization’s mission is to strengthen the impact of American fashion in the global economy. The council hosts an annual award show in June to recognize the contributions and impact of the designers, creatives, legends and icons of the fashion industry; this year, Jennifer Lopez, will be celebrated with the Fashion Icon Award.
Why JLo?
The actress, singer, dancer and producer works hard to create her unique style. According to the CFDA, its board of directors will award Lopez for her longstanding and global impact on fashion. Lopez has worn many designers including Tom Ford, Zuhair Murad and Donatella Versace. She is a powerhouse of confidence. CFDA chairwoman and iconic designer Diane von Furstenberg said of JLo, “Both designers and fans look forward to her fashion statements.”
JLo’s Most Memorable Moments
Whether on the street or on the red carpet, Lopez has always made her mark. Does The Dress ring a bell? Think back to the Grammy Awards in 2000—the Versace tropical leaf print chiffon dress from the 2000s slit all the way up and down. That dress inspired Google Image Search. (Really!)
