A message from our CEO & the TONI&GUY family #BlackLivesMatter

Dear TONI&GUY Family,

As you are aware, in recent weeks there have been protests around the country and the world in response to the horrific and appalling murder of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, while in police custody. The incident was unspeakable, sickening and flat out wrong!

We want to address you – our students, hairdressers, staff and faculty – in regards to our position on the Black Lives Matter movement and the call for change to the injustices seen in the countless other incidents of racial discrimination and brutality in America.

WE, and when I say WE I mean myself and all TONI&GUY Salons and Academies, fully and completely support the peaceful protests and the much overdue conversations that are happening right now concerning systemic racism in the black community.

As a company and national brand we are taking this moment to reflect on changes WE MUST make in our own institutions and we will learn from this conversation. We understand that we have not done enough to provide a diverse and inclusive training for our students and clients.

You deserve a well-rounded education and that certainly includes all hair types. Every student, instructor and hairdresser should be able to perform services for any client that walks in the door and be 100% confident in their training. We understand this is no small task and will not happen overnight but we accept the challenge.

Samantha Finley and I are working with our educational team to develop ways that we can incorporate and expand our curriculum to include more culturally diverse training for all students and staff.

As you know we exclusively use TIGI products in our salons and academies; however, we can and will seek out a natural haircare partner that can provide additional products and training that we can incorporate and build upon. The natural hair care line that we choose will be retailed in our salons and academies and we will commit to investing 100% of the proceeds from these retail sales in educating our team and to donations to organizations that support the black community.

We will invest in our faculty to improve our skill set in this area. Right now we are not experts, but we will learn! This is our commitment to you and we will expedite this process.

We will continue to look for ways that our brand can set an example in the community and in our industry to support inclusivity for all.

We understand that this is an emotional time for everyone, it is also for us, and we stand with you. We stand with the nation of Americans that will no longer tolerate racism and inequality. We will do our part.

Sincerely,
Zak Mascolo, Samantha Finley and the TONI&GUY Team
