News Trimmings: Behind The Chair “On Tour” Takes on Dallas

Everything is bigger and better in Texas, including our open-armed welcome of Behind the Chair which was met by a very excited crowd, and major sponsorship from COLOR WOW, Schwarzkopf Professionals, and Victory Barber & Brand, to name a few. This was TONI&GUY’s second go around on the BTC stage, after a first run in San Antonio.

Behind the Chair Founder Mary Rector-Gable started off the show with an inspiring story that led into a deep soul searching, learning, and all around good time. Rector-Gable’s wisdom? Hard work and determination will always win in the salon. Face your fears, believe in yourself, and follow your dreams.

What happened at the show?

The second segment was about hair creative color and salon-friendly techniques with Wesley Palmer. A haircutting segment followed closely behind with our CEO Zak Mascolo. Naeemah Lafond and Michelle O’Connor from Amika and InStyle gave us tips on styling and cutting for naturally textured hair. The balayage and blondes squad took the stage with paint, foils and bright blends to give hairdressers an idea of what it means to create that perfect blonde. Last but not certainly least, Chris Appleton stole the crowd with techniques on how to style with wigs and hair extensions a la Kim Kardashian.

Zak Mascolo Live On Stage

TONI&GUY CEO Zak Mascolo participated in the haircutting segment with Matty Conrad, founder of Victory Barber & Brand, Buddy Porter, Chris Jones and Mark Dolan. We like to say it was our favorite segment because we saw Zak Mascolo show off his skills. He put together a nice edgy layered purple pixie cut for the crowd. The most significant debate of the segment? Dry-cutting versus wet-cutting. So who won, you ask? It depends on who you ask, but if you ask us, wet-cutting is where the fundamentals of cut and control are best understood.

Balayage, Blondes and Tools

We also had the opportunity to highlight our tools and education on balayage and blondes. To check out the tools at BTC, visit this page  for how you can purchase these one-of-a-kind tools.

Overall, the show was successful and educational for all of us. We learned how to achieve melted color hair for unique clients along with how to efficiently style natural textured hair. Hair is different for everyone and learning what’s important to the client gives us motivation to learn more. We are excited to be heading to D.C  for the official The BTC Show, for more information head to this link. See you there!
